Description of Eid prayer


The Eid prayer is one where the imam attends and leads the people in praying two rak’ahs.


⏳Its time starts after the sun has risen to the length of a spear above the horizon (just over 1 metre) and lasts until it has crossed the meridian.


It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed said: The Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to come out on the day of al-Fitr and al-Adha to the prayer place, and the first thing he would do was to offer the prayer. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 956

In the first rak’ah he should say Takbeerat al-ihraam (say “Allaahu akbar” to start the prayer), after which he should say six or seven more takbeers, because of the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), “The takbeer of al-Fitr and al-Adha is seven takbeers in the first rak’ah and five takbeers in the second, apart from the takbeer of rukoo’.” Narrated by Abu Dawood and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 639.

Then he should recite al-Faatihah, and recite Soorat Qaf in the first rak’ah. In the second rak’ah he should stand up saying takbeer, and when he has stood up completely he should say takbeer five times, and recite Soorat al-Faatihah then Soorat al-Qamr. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite these two soorahs during the two Eids. Or if he wishes he can recite Soorat al-A’la in the first rak’ah and Soorat al-Ghaashiyah in the second, because it was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite al-A’la and al-Ghaashiyah in the Eid prayer.

๐ŸŽthe surahs specified here are the recommended, but any other surah can be read after Surat al-Fatiha in both rak'ahs.


The imam should revive the Sunnah be reciting these soorahs so that the Muslims will become familiar with the Sunnah.

๐ŸŒนThe prayer comes before the khutbah 


One of the rulings of Eid is that the prayer comes before the khutbah, because of the hadeeth of Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah who said, The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came out on the day of al-Fitr and started with the prayer before the khutbah. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 958; Muslim, 885.

Sujood al tilaawah( reciting) Sujood al-tilaawah, whether during prayer or outside of it, is Sunnah, not obligatory,  ๐ŸŒท⤵️๐ŸŒท because evidence to that effect was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), in the hadeeth of Zayd ibn Thaabit and in the hadeeth of ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him).  It is not essential to have wudoo’ for sujood al-tilaawah, according to the more correct of the two scholarly opinions, ๐ŸŒท⤵️๐ŸŒท  and there is no salaam or takbeer when coming up from it, according to the more correct of the two scholarly opinions.  ๐ŸŒท⤵️๐ŸŒท It is prescribed to say takbeer when prostrating, because evidence to that effect is proven in the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him).  ๐ŸŒท⤵️๐ŸŒท But if the sujood al-tilaawah is done during prayer, then it is obligatory to say takbeer when going down and when coming up, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to do that in every movement of Salah (the prayer) . ๐ŸŒท⤵️

The day of Tarwiyah ๐Ÿ’ฆ Tarwiyah is the eighth day of the Islamic month of Dhu Al-Hijjah and it marks the journey of Hajj pilgrims from Mecca to Mina. ๐Ÿ’ฆIn Arabic the word “tarwiya” means “to quench thirst” and the day is named as such, due to the fact that traditionally pilgrims used to fill up on water in Mecca before setting off on the journey, as in early times water was difficult, if not impossible to obtain whilst on route. For this reason people were required to drink and take enough to last until the end of the Hajj pilgrimage. ⛺️Mina is located in the desert approximately seven kilometres north-east of Mecca. Pilgrims to pray and supplicate during their stay in Mina. Ruling on celebrating birthdays    The evidence in the Qur’aan and Sunnah indicates that celebrating birthdays is a kind of bid’ah or innovation in religion, which has no basis in the pure sharee’ah ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท It is not permitted to accept invitations to birthday celebrations, because this involves supporting and encouraging bid’ah.  ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning) : “Or have they partners with Allaah (false gods) who have instituted for them a religion which Allaah has not allowed…?” [al-Shoora 42:21] “Then We have put you (O Muhammad) on a plain way of (Our) commandment.
